Assisting with feasibility studies, contract selection, procurement strategies and the production of procurement reports
Assisting with the preparation of the contract documents, warranties, bonds and licenses
Assisting with cost control and reporting services during the contract
Assisting with identifying costs associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities and client charges
Learning how to apply the value management techniques at the outset of a project
Learning how to measure and provide valuations of the work carried out and adjusting variations in accordance with the terms of the contract and agreement with the contractor
Supports with the issue of ‘Certificate of Making Good Defects’ and final completion in accordance with any requirements relating to completion, submissions and approvals
Supporting the procurement process, helping to ensure all stages including prequalification, enquiry, analysis, selection, and contract preparation are performed effectively
Knowledge of, and guidance in, estimating and cost planning activities
Participating in the evaluation of claims for delay and additional costs made by the contractor and any nominated subcontractors/suppliers
You will also work towards completing a five-year Level 6 Chartered Surveyor (Quantity Surveying) apprenticeship, where you’ll achieve a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying degree. We’ll also support you in gaining professional membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Working with the project team to assist in the delivery of the project objectives in line with the Project Plan
Monitoring and actively engaging in relevant Health, Safety and Wellbeing standards aspects of the project at all stages
Assisting in the preparation and modifications of the project plans and keeping them updated and relevant over the course of the project(s)
Collaborating with relevant parties/stakeholders and ensuring robust quality systems are suitably managed and monitored in line with Service Excellence
Attending and recording relevant meetings, providing relevant parties with contextual information and analysis, including regular site walks

The apprentice will work under the supervision of and support several professional consultants on the delivery of construction projects for a variety of clients, on a wide range of projects in the Local Government Sector, from initial concept (including supporting grant funding applications) through to outline / detailed design, procurement, delivery and handover.
Typical tasks and activities include:
Preparation and maintenance of key project documents such as action trackers and minutes, risk registers, project execution plans, etc
Review of project programmes and monitoring thereof
Monitor the expenditure against predefined budgets of costs, including professional fees, surveys and investigations, and construction
Collate, analyse and report on cost, schedule and risk performance data, utilising digital toolsets to efficiently visualise and communicate insights for project teams
Review technical design drawings and management plans to understand the scope and constraints of a project and support scope change control procedures
Undertake on-the-job training on a range of industry-leading tools and procedures, and, along with the learning from their part-time degree course, apply these skills to ongoing project activities
Training:
On this apprenticeship, you will complete the BSc Construction Quantity Surveyor Apprenticeship through our agreed training provider Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)
Training Outcome:
Following the apprenticeship, the apprentice can either develop further in their specialism or explore other routes and opportunities across our business
