Assist in designing substations operating at voltages up to 132,000 volts
Develop layouts and configurations for physical substation components (e.g., transformers, switchgear, busbars)
Create detailed project-specific designs, drawings, and specifications
Prepare schedules and bills of materials for equipment and installation

Work closely with senior engineers and project teams to ensure designs meet client and regulatory requirements
Training:The training programme provides on-the-job training and formal courses held in one of our Training Centre’s at either Taunton or Tipton, over a period of approximately two years (depending on entry level qualifications). Successful candidates will also be expected to study for and achieve a higher-level qualification. The majority of the on-the-job training will take place within local teams, but you may be required to undertake placements at other locations across the National Grid service area, so you need to be flexible and able to travel. You will progress towards the role of an engineer within Engineering Design and the apprenticeship programme takes around five years to complete. You’ll spend your first 10 - 12 weeks being inducted onto the programme at one of our Training Centres. You’ll earn while you learn and develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours to become an Electrical Designer, achieving a higher-level qualification (if not already achieved). Your Training will include vocational and academic courses along with placements across our service areas. During these placements you will undertake managed office or field-based training with a team where you can put your new skills into practice.

A Senior ML Research Engineer is sought to join an innovative AI research team in Surrey, contributing to the development of advanced AI models and algorithms for speech, audio, and generative AI applications.
The Senior ML Research Engineer in Surrey, will be expected to expand their expertise in machine learning and audio/speech processing, learning from peers and senior engineers while applying best practices in research, software development, and deployment to mobile platforms. This may include implementing and optimising deep learning models, designing evaluation pipelines, and working on generative AI technologies.
Responsibilities include:
Work with researchers and engineers to define AI model requirements and project specifications.
Design, implement, and maintain machine learning models and algorithms, primarily for speech and audio applications.
Develop and execute evaluation pipelines to test models on prototype and production systems.
Debug and optimise ML workflows and code using Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and related tools.
Collaborate with software and hardware teams to integrate AI solutions seamlessly into devices.
Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for models, algorithms, and workflows.

Key skills & experience:

The Field Engineering team supports projects with diverse scopes of work. As a Field Engineer, you will be responsible for organizing, researching, and documenting cross-departmental assignments that contribute to the growth and operational excellence of Pure Air Control Services, a division of Weatherproofing Technologies, Inc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
Coordinate with multi-disciplined teams, including sales personnel and field team, to develop a scope of work and estimate the cost of a project.
Organize material and complete reports according to pre-defined standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
Gather and analyze large amounts of technical data, drawings, and field notes to develop a clear understanding of building HVAC systems.
Translate incomplete or fragmented information into accurate system concepts, identifying key mechanical, electrical, and control components.
Evaluate project requirements, specifications, and system layouts to determine where company products and solutions can be effectively integrated.
Clearly explain technical observations and engineering assessments to project managers, sales teams, and operations staff in both verbal and written form.

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering field (preferred)

CxA (Certified Commissioning Authority) or CxT (Certified Commissioning Technician) certification preferred; candidates actively pursuing certification will also be considered.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems.
Familiarity with current building, energy, and mechanical codes and standards.
Understanding of HVAC design principles, including heating load, air change, and ventilation requirements, and applying different HVAC systems (Constant volume, VAV, 100% OA, ERV units, etc.).
Understanding of HVAC engineering fundamentals, including load calculations, conceptual systems analysis through construction documentation design, equipment design and layout, and duct and pipe sizing.
Customer service oriented.
Proficient computer skills and strong technical writing skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Well organized and possess superior time management abilities to support several projects simultaneously.
Self-motivated and self-directed while remaining a team player.
Ability to travel out of state up to 50% of the time.
