As part of your role, you’ll define design requirements, develop 3D CAD models, produce detailed engineering drawings, and carry out scoping calculations. You’ll also prepare equipment specifications, technical reports, and help manage plant and equipment obsolescence to ensure systems remain safe and reliable. Supporting assembly, testing, and operational teams, you’ll offer technical guidance, resolve engineering queries, and manage nonconformance issues, while gaining exposure to advanced engineering tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
Based at one of our key sites in Humberside, you’ll support major projects at locations like Sellafield. You’ll begin by shadowing experienced engineers, building a strong foundation in design, modelling, calculations, and documentation. As you develop, you’ll take on more complex tasks and gain valuable experience across the full design lifecycle. Every drawing, design, or calculation you contribute to plays a part in protecting people, the environment, and the nation’s energy future.

Training:
You’ll study with the University of Nottingham through the Electro-mechanical Engineer Degree Apprenticeship – a five-year programme that combines university teaching with practical experience in the workplace. These sessions are designed to strengthen your technical knowledge and build your engineering skills.
For the rest of the year, you’ll continue learning while working. You’ll watch recorded lectures, complete assignments, and carry out projects that relate directly to your job. This flexible approach means you can study at times that suit your schedule, while applying what you learn in real-world situations.

As a Civil and Structural Engineering Apprentice at Cavendish Nuclear, you’ll join a business that delivers vital engineering solutions across the nuclear sector. You’ll work on a variety of live projects, gaining exposure to everything from concept design through to construction and decommissioning. The role can be varied and typically may include (but is not limited to):
Programming and operations in connection to the 3D metal printer
Programming the industrial laser systems using CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) software which operates the 6-axis machinery that completes component repairs and welds new parts
Putting together project plans, liaising with suppliers and ensuring all work is carried out on time for customers
Working with customers using online meetings, by phone, email and in person
Reverse engineering, using non-contact measuring systems and specialist computer software, to produce electronic models of parts. These then feed into the CAM programming
Working with metallography lab equipment including a cutting saw, mounting samples, microscopes (and associated software) to produce an image on screen of what each piece of metal looks like
Compiling material analysis reports for internal and customer use
Writing and developing documentation linked to our ISO9001 accreditation - including producing instruction sheets and risk assessments
Producing quotations / proposal bid writing
There will be some tidying/cleaning expected as part of this role
There may be the opportunity to gain a licence for driving a forklift and use this as part of on-site operations

We are seeking a skilled Wirer to join our dynamic team to build and wire both prototype and production electronic equipment. You will work from drawings, circuit diagrams, and engineers sketches, ensuring work is completed to production deadlines with strict adherence to wiring best practices and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manufacture wiring looms and assemble connectors
- Route and fit complex wiring to enclosures and mechanical structures
