As an apprentice stone mason specialising in heritage skills, you will be working towards the completion of your apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship is made up of on-the-job training with the business and off the job training based at York College.
You will learn the following: -
Health & safety on a construction site
Stone masonry tools & equipment appropriate to methods of work
Handling of materials
Environmental considerations
Developing the ability to carve decorative masonry
Opportunity to work on historic buildings throughout the north west
Gain extensive knowledge in conservation & restoration techniques
Training:You will work towards the Level 2 Stone Mason qualification.
This apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work as a stonemason and this will include the following:
Health and safety to include Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, Manual Handling and Working at Height Regulations, use of PPE etc.
Select, use and maintain tools, components and equipment appropriate to the task being carried out
Interpret the appropriate work plan for the job, taking into account factors such as building age, listed status, accessibility, quality of surrounding structures, other trades in the work area, customers and related legislation and regulations
Identify and confirm masonry requirements against surveys, job sheets, specifications and drawings/CAD, and in accordance with Building Regulations
Locate, handle, store, load, transport and position materials and tools safely, minimising damage, ready for installation and, where applicable, in accordance with health and safety regulations
Produce or repair standard architectural enrichments, prepare backgrounds to receive masonry and set out basic masonry on buildings/structures
Prepare backgrounds to receive stone cladding and set out basic external stonemasonry on heritage buildings/structures and conserve or restore existing stonemasonry, brickwork or earthen structures on Heritage Structures using appropriate heritage techniques and following conservation ethics and procedures
This will include both on-the-job training with the business and off-the-job training with block release to York College.
You will also produce a portfolio of evidence demonstrating examples of your work throughout the apprenticeship.
If you do not have GCSE English and/or maths at grade 4/C or above, you will be required to study Functional Skills in these subjects, which are delivered as a separate block release.Training Outcome:

My client is one of the most recognised and successful law firms in the UK, with over 30 years experience and has seven offices across the UK.
They are now looking to expand further into their Manchester office and are looking for legal advisors to manage a caseload of Fast Track RTA cases through all stages of the investigation and litigation process.
To deliver robust quality claims handling, with a key focus on client outcomes, to generate fee income and to contribute to the general success of the business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for a high volume caseload of Fast Track Personal Injury RTA claims, making use of the firms Case Management Systems and using the agreed internal procedures and practices.
- To progress your caseload in a manner to ensure that clients receive appropriate, professional, timely and pertinent legal advice, with regular contact, whilst managing their expectations.
- To deal with cases with denial of liability and causation arguments with minimal supervision.
- To be able to assess liability and quantum to include reviewing medical reports, researching and obtaining relevant case law, drafting schedules of special damages and assessing suitable awards for compensation.
- To identify early those cases where proceedings would be tactically beneficial to litigate and to do so expeditiously.
- Take a practical but commercial approach to settlements and advising clients as to litigation/cost risks.
- To achieve and exceed various targets set in relation to, for example, profit costs and issuing, without compromising the firms integrity.
- To liaise appropriately and timely with sources, medical agencies, experts, third party insurers and other relevant parties to ensure that cases are pro-actively progressed.
- To attend, where appropriate, court hearings to make representations in respect of the claim before the judiciary. Where necessary, and in accordance with the firms internal policies and procedures, to instruct Barristers to represent clients at hearings and obtain formal Advice over issues of quantum and liability.
- Perform to a high level in a target orientated environment.
- To undertake any other tasks as deemed relevant and reasonable by the business.
Experience and Knowledge
- Substantial experience of managing your own caseload of Fast Track RTA litigated claims.
- Excellent litigator with strong drafting skills and the ability to negotiate appropriate settlements at the optimum time.
- A solid working knowledge of the CPR, legislation and relevant case law
- Competent working with a case management system and good knowledge of MS Office
- Good attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Focus on delivering quality service to clients and the firm.

Operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process, panel pulling systems, jig and alignment tools, spot welders, brazing tools
Identify and communicate supplementary damage such as panels that were deemed to be repairable but, once worked on, were found to be beyond repair, along with damage that could not be established on original inspection
Ability to detect and rectify faults within a vehicles structure that’s integral to its safety
