GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Performs visual and physical inspection, sampling, testing and control of parts, products and raw materials to conform to established specifications, applicable standards and the ISO 9001 Quality System.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follows the established quality control procedures to ensure all products are manufactured in compliance with IMS, customer specifications, ISO9001:2015 and ISO14000-2015. Conducts the inspection and testing of raw materials and products, both in process and finished. Performs color quality control and corrections by interpreting results obtained using appropriate measurements. Inspects, calibrates and supervises the use of various instrumentation for testing. Performs data analysis and provides feedback and improvement suggestions to plant personnel, production management, QC Supervisor and Quality Assurance Manager on all issues concerning quality. Maintains Quality Control documents and daily reporting of information. Assists in complaint investigations by performing tests to detect or duplicate issues observed in the field. Assists in trouble shooting machine functions and production issues as they arise. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Performs other duties as assigned.

This occupation is found in manufacturing and process sectors.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to produce complex high value, low volume components or assemblies in full or part, using machines, equipment or systems, to the required specification. For example, turbines, cranes, gearboxes, production lines, rigs and platforms. Fitters may typically have a mechanical, electrical, electronic, control systems, pipe fitting or instrumentation bias or operate across multiple disciplines depending on the type of assembly. To produce or re-furbish the components fitters will interpret drawings/specifications and plan their work, for example ensuring they have the right tools, equipment and resources to complete the task to the required specification. GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Maintenance Technician supports and ensures the completion of day-to-day maintenance activities at the plant. The position provides support to leadership for all maintenance staff to drive excellence and maximize effort. The position focuses on maintaining high-quality standards through the efforts expended at the facility that meet and exceed customer expectations while maintaining a professional and equally efficient environment for all production employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform standard work in a safe manner by following all written and verbally communicated safety rules and procedures. Inspect and repair plant equipment, including but not limited to mechanical, welding, carpentry, electrical, instrumentation and controls to minimize downtime. Document accurate maintenance activity records. Clean and maintain assigned areas and tools to ensure proper functionality. Participate in the continuous improvement process. Report incidents, near misses, and any non-conformances through the appropriate channels. Exemplify the expected values of organization including following policies and standard work procedures. Give input on and coordinate maintenance supply purchases. Perform Preventative Maintenance Program to ensure completion and accuracy. Other projects and tasks assigned. Crosstrain on other production functions to aid as business need dictates.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
One-year certificate from college, technical school or manufacturing training program. One additional year of experience plus high school diploma/GED in lieu of higher education is acceptable. Two additional years of experience in lieu of formal education is acceptable.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Maintenance Technician I: No prior experience required unless noted in the education section.
OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

The role is part of the R&D department at Luxfer MEL Technologies’ (LMT) Manchester site. The zirconium chemicals business at LMT develop materials that go into catalyst and healthcare applications. The magnesium business within LMT design, develop and manufacture novel magnesium alloys used in a range of applications from aerospace to oil and gas.
As an R&D Apprentice you will be predominantly based in the Zirconium R&D team, where you will be involved in developing future zirconium advanced materials. You may also complete placements in other departments such as Quality Assurance and Manufacturing, which will be done in six monthly blocks.
Alongside your studies, you’ll be working as part of the Zirconium Research and Development Team where you will:
Learn to conduct experimental work, initially based on set protocols, and then learning to design your own synthesis and scale up experiments
Learn to characterise the materials you produce using traditional chemistry techniques and a wide variety of analytical instrumentation (for example XRF, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, IC, Particle Size, Surface Area and Porosity instruments)
Learn to interpret the results you generate and learning to present the data you produce

The programme is primarily taught through tutor-supported online study, part-time over four years.
Apprentices will attend a two-day induction at the University to help them get to know each other and balance undergraduate study with working full-time.
