Apprentice Engineering fitter

Technicians will be trained to assemble, fit, test, fault find, and repair a variety of sensors, antennas, radios and other pieces of equipment such as PCBs and electronic modules. Interpreting and following drawings or diagrams, or specifications for the required component or assembly, primarily of unattended ground sensors. Planning work activity, including resources, equipment, and tooling. Producing individual components, for example, wiring looms, interfacing parts, wiring cables, electronic assemblies. Assembling components to produce equipment, a machine, or a system – in full or in part. Quality checking and adjusting components or assembly against required specifications; for example, testing and calibrating work within technical parameters to perform functional tests on PCBs, electronic assemblies, and complete systems manufactured by the company. Identifying and resolving problems with components or assembly, fault diagnosis, find to component level on both digital and analogue PCBs. Use a wide range of test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters) Handing over completed components or assembly, this may include storage. Contributing to continuous improvement in component production or assembly. Develop and manufacture test jigs to support production testing. Configure and programme electronic assemblies using relevant software tools. Test and repair customer-supplied equipment to agreed service levels.

Training:

Training will take place one day a week at Basingstoke College of Technology and the rest of the time in the workplace.  



Training Outcome:

The course offers progression to the HNC and is a recognised means of career progression within the engineering industry.
