Head Sommelier

Job Title: Head Sommelier
Location: Malta 
Salary: Negotiable

I am working with an established hotel group in Malta. We are looking for a knowledgeable and motivated Head Sommelier to take charge of the wine program and elevate the dining experience across their restaurant collection. This role calls for someone with strong expertise in wine selection and service, as well as the ability to mentor and inspire a team.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage an extensive wine list tailored to different restaurant styles and cuisinesDeliver a high standard of wine service and provide expert recommendations to guestsGuide and train team members on wine knowledge, pairings, and service techniquesAnalyse wine sales and ensure the program is both profitable and of consistently high qualityOversee stock management, including ordering, checks, and storageWork closely with sommeliers, bar teams, and restaurant management to ensure seamless operationsMaintain excellent guest relations, handling inquiries and offering a professional wine experienceEnsure proper storage and serving standards for all wines

Candidate Profile

At least 5 years of experience in sommelier roles, including 2 years in a leadership positionWSET Level 3 or equivalent qualification Strong understanding of international wine regions, vintages, and food pairingsSkilled in leadership, training, and guest engagementMeticulous attention to detail and a strong passion for hospitalityKnowledge of local vineyards and wineries is an advantageBased in Malta

Personal Qualities

Strong communication skills in English (Maltese is an asset)Professional presentation and a welcoming personalityConfident, approachable, and guest-focusedResults-driven and able to perform well in a fast-paced environment
