2026 Acoustics Engineering Apprentice - Templecombe

The role will develop your engineering skills to become a confident, positive and flexible acoustics hardware engineer with well-honed technical knowledge gained from both academic commitments and on-the-job training. You will be part of a team that supports systems and equipment solutions that are currently in service with our customer. This will provide many opportunities to experience the various aspects of hardware engineering, such as research and design work, interaction with Thales industry teams, test and possibly site and platform visits for surveys or trials. There will also be opportunities to experience other parts of the business to further expand your knowledge on how each sector operates together to deliver high-quality products on tight deadlines.

As an Acoustic Engineering Apprentice you will develop the key skills and experience in the following:

Modelling acoustics effects on sensors and their performance under differing conditions Production of digital and physical models Specifying requirements and designing solutions Undertaking in water and in air testing Working with specialist teams (e.g. materials) to understand impacts on acoustic solutions

Training:

As an Acoustics Engineering Apprentice, you will be studying towards a BEng in Electro-Mechanical Engineering at Nottingham University, under the Level 6 Electro-Mechanical Degree Apprenticeship. For the duration of this 5 year programme, you will be given 1 day per week to focus on your academic studies and for the other 4 days, will be working in the business applying your new skills to real-life projects. This programme is delivered via a blended learning model, which includes some on-campus taught content and some virtual learning. You will need to attend Nottingham University for around 4 block weeks per academic year, delivered in 1-week blocks.



Training Outcome:

Upon completion of the programme, you will have achieved a BSc in Electro-mechanical Engineering, a Level 6-degree apprenticeship qualification and will move into a permanent role within the business. The degree is accredited by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
