School Sport Coaches design and deliver coaching programmes that focus on the acceleration of sustainable mastery of children’s psychomotor skills and wider physical education standards. They profile children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development needs. They measure psychomotor, technical and tactical skills in a range of physical activity contexts drawn from the Department for Education’s National Curriculum to enable physical education targets to be agreed. These results are used to create a high-level curriculum plan that considers school term schedules and a ‘whole child’ development approach. 

Supporting the delivery of high quality and inclusive PE lessons to pupils in school in line with the requirements of the national curriculum for PE  Support/lead extra-curricular activities and clubs  Assist with school games competitions & events Run/organise and support physical activity and engagement at break and lunch times To support pupils in accessing other learning activities as directed by the teacher To provide cover for PE / Sports staff when absent To ensure the maintenance of PE equipment, checking for quality and safety, undertaking repairs / modifications within your own capabilities and reporting other damages as appropriate. To monitor stock and supplies, cataloguing as required To prepare PE equipment / resources / materials as required by staff within strict time scales To implement structured learning activities / teaching programmes in line with the National Curriculum, under the direction of the teacher To demonstrate, and assist others in the safe and effective use of PE equipment / materials To provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement To maintain records as requested  Administration tasks related to planning and evaluating coaching activities/projects Safeguard children at all times Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety, by complying with good H&S practice Support the teachers and other staff in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate

Training:

During this programme, apprentices will engage with training that will develop and enhance their coaching skills and equip them to work in a variety of environments, with a range of stakeholders and work effectively in partnership with other organisations. In addition to this, there will also be a unique opportunity for candidates to engage with training that will develop and enhance their classroom practice/teaching skills so they can deliver whole class teaching for PE.  

Level 4 School Sports Coach Apprenticeship Standard

Training Outcome:

Careers within the Sport Coaching industry  Careers within the Education sector including Behaviour & Learning Mentors, Teaching Assistants and Primary Teaching Potential further employment with the employer Opportunity for further education Candidates successfully achieving this apprenticeship will be eligible to apply for membership with the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) as a Practitioner.

What We Do:

High-Quality, Tailored PE Programmes 
Every school we work with receives a bespoke, structured programme designed around its facilities, curriculum goals and student needs. We plan two sports per term and adapt lessons according to space, equipment and weather, providing a flexible and professional approach. 
Apprentices will be involved in planning, supporting lessons, adapting activities and gradually taking on small-group and whole-class delivery under supervision.
Cross-Curricular PE – Learning Beyond the Lesson 
Thanks to an IB-informed teaching background, many of our units integrate learning from other subjects. This helps children see PE as more than movement—it becomes an opportunity to think, apply knowledge and make real-world connections. 
Apprentices will learn how to build these links, communicate concepts clearly and support children in understanding why fitness and movement matter.
What Apprentices Gain With Evo Sports 
Apprenticeship at Evo Sports is hands-on, practical and varied. You will gain: 
1. Real Coaching Experience 
From day one, apprentices assist warm-ups, support skill stations, help manage groups and gradually take responsibility for leading sections of lessons. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will confidently deliver full sessions with planning support. 
2. Planning and Curriculum Understanding 
Apprentices learn how units are structured, how to build progression, how to differentiate, and how to plan in challenging environments (e.g., limited space or weather restrictions). 
3. Behaviour and Group Management 
Working across year groups builds strong communication and leadership skills that are essential for teaching and coaching careers. 
4. Professional Experience in Schools 
Apprentices work directly with teachers, teaching assistants and senior leaders, building confidence and professionalism. 
5. Supportive Mentoring 
You will receive regular feedback, guidance on planning, help with coursework and opportunities to reflect on your teaching. Evo Sports invests in developing your confidence and competence. 

Working Hours :
We deliver sessions Monday to Friday and expect to offer a minimum of 15 hours per week, although this is flexible and dependent on the timetable from September. This will be year round and not only term time.
