Apprentice Transport Planning Technician (Level 3) - September 2025 intake
With the guidance and support of colleagues you will:
Assist in developing designs for highway layouts and Active Travel Routes, for concept and preliminary design Produce AutoCAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings Support the administration of projects, including maintaining records Assist with data review and analysis, such as traffic flows and collision information Contribute to providing solutions to problems Assist with site visits to collect information or observe existing situations Work collaboratively within your team and with others on multidisciplinary projects This is primarily a desk-based role, working together with a diverse team, out of high-quality office space in Bristol, with occasional site visits. This is a BTEC Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship and on entry you will have at least 5 GCSEs at Grades 9 - 4 (A*-C) including English, Mathematics and Science or their equivalent. On successful completion of the apprenticeship and the end-point assessment, you will have satisfied the requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) and MCIHT. It is also mapped to the Transport Planning Society’s Professional Development requirements offering the opportunity to access a work-based route to a career as a professional transport planner. The typical duration is between 24 - 36 months and is delivered as a block release in person or blended learning programme, with a mandatory end-point assessment and European field trip.
Training Outcome:
Building on this apprenticeship, you will be able to develop a career as a technician within transport planning. Progressing to Senior Technician, then Principal Technician and beyond, you will work on the design of bigger and more complex schemes as your technical skills build, having a tangible impact on the design of physical environments.
