Cake Shop Apprentice

Preparing the café for opening, setting up tables and chairs outside and cleaning tables Taking orders, using the till, making hot and cold drinks, serving customers with their cakes and drinks Unloading dishwasher, taking out the bins, and cleaning floors Greet customers with warm, friendly chats and smooth professional service Helping with the food prep, making sugar decorations for celebration cakes, making tiffin, flapjacks, cake pops, etc Closing down the café, bringing in the tables & chairs, cleaning the coffee machines

Training:
Food and Beverage Team Member Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard The successful applicant will gain experience and training The apprentice would be assigned an assessor through the college, who would typically come out to visit in workplace to assess workplace competence The knowledge side would be provided via an online portal VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), and assignments/ evidence of work/ portfolio would be checked via an online Smart Assessor If required, GCSE resit will be embedded into the Apprenticeship

Training Outcome:

Front of house for food businesses, restaurants, cafés, a maitre d' role, or even running their own café or tea rooms.



Employer Description:
Fifi's Cakery started as a luxury wedding cake brand over 10 years ago, delivering wedding cakes all over London and the South of England. Winning awards such as Wedding Cake Designer of the Year in 2017/2018, Best Wedding Cake Design Business in 2021 and Best Allergen Cake Business in 2023. After Covid shut down the wedding industry Fifi turned the wedding cake recipe into cupcakes and started the café whilst located in a studio on a farm. Now located on a main road in St Ives town with increased footfall the cafe has become a go to for locals and cake lovers from further afield to enjoy an array of tasty treats. It is a safe space for people to come on their own to enjoy delicious cakes and drinks, with friendly service in a calm and pretty setting. Afternoon teas, cupcake parties and cake classes are also held in the cakery.

Working Hours :
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday 9am-5.15pm.
