Commercial Vehicle Body Shop Apprentice - Panel

As a Commercial Vehicle Body Shop Apprentice - Panel, you will form part of our Accident Repair team working on all types of commercial vehicle from vans to HGVs cabs and tractor units.

You may also have the opportunity to learn about other areas of our business such as graphics and Heavy Repair (HGV trailers and bodies) depending on work requirements and your personal interests.

Health and safety Materials and consumables Removing and fitting non-structural body panels Removing and replacing structural body panels Repair techniques and processes Tools and equipment Vehicle body alignment Welding techniques and processes Panel beating & dent pulling Panel fitting - inc. van sidewalls, door apertures, etc. Filling Prepping for paintwork Document your work, following our quality management system and taking images throughout repair stages Deliver the highest quality work Cleaning your own station

About You

You don’t need vast experience in a vehicle body shop to apply but you must have a logical mindset and a can-do attitude. We’re looking for the type of person who naturally wants to take things apart to learn how they work.

You also need to be able to use your own initiative, be punctual and willing to get stuck in as part of the team. Whilst you will have all the support you need, you will also be expected to learn quickly and be able to repeat tasks that you have grown confident in with less supervision. You must also have your own tools (we can support with this) and will be expected to keep the workshop clean and tidy at all times.

Training:

Level 3 Vehicle Damage Panel Technician Standard:

Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair, including safety precautions, panel preparation and body measurements Ability to identify the material used in the construction to enable the correct joining techniques and manufacturer specifications to be adhered to Ability to interpret relevant technical data and methods to make sure that any joints are in line with vehicle manufacturer specification and the vehicle/body panels are aligned correctly Ability to identify and understand the correct joining technology, e.g., when to use resistance spot welding or mig brazing or bonding Ability to remove, repair and replace vehicle body panels and components of the vehicle safely and efficiently Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process, panel pulling systems, jig and alignment tools, spot welders, brazing tools Ability to identify and communicate supplementary damage such as panels that were deemed to be reparable but once worked on were found to be beyond repair along with damage that could not be established on original inspection Ability to detect and rectify faults within a vehicles structure that’s integral to its safety Blended on/off the job training and location to be confirmed

We are split across 2 sites a few miles apart with around 50 team members in total. Working Hours :
Working hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm Mon-Fri.
