Building services engineers are responsible for ensuring that the electrical, mechanical and other systems within buildings work effectively and efficiently. Well-designed and maintained building services systems are essential in supporting people with their busy lives and help them maximise the benefits from their built environment.
Our design approach to Building Services Engineering is to understand the client’s brief, interrogate the needs and operation of the building and use innovative methods in the design process.
As buildings are responsible for over 40% of the world’s energy consumption, Building Services Engineers have an important responsibility to minimise carbon emissions, reduce energy consumption, adapt to regulatory change and deliver on the sustainability agenda.
Duties will include:
Working as part of a design team delivering detailed design.
Assisting with the creation of specifications and schedules.
Using specialist computer-aided design (CAD) and BIM (Revit) software and other resources to design the systems required for the project.
Site surveys and monitoring.
Attending design workshops and client meetings.
Liaising closely with other professionals, including structural engineers, architects, surveyors, and contractors of in-house and external project teams.
Report writing.
Producing asset registers.
Training:You will be studying for BEng (Hons) in Building Services Engineering at London South Bank University as well as achieving Incorporated Engineer status with the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) at your End Point Assessment.

In your daily work, you will interact with venue personnel, such as chefs, catering managers, facilities managers, managers/owners and kitchen staff. Installations involve unpacking and in some cases assembling equipment, connecting in accordance with the equipment manufacturer’s instructions to suitable services (gas, electricity, water and drainage) and commissioning.
Where an installation involves the removal of equipment, engineers disconnect the redundant item, remove it to a safe area for disposal and make safe any services no longer required.
On maintenance visits, engineers visually inspect the equipment, check the services for any problems, carry out maintenance tasks as specified by the manufacturer, and test the equipment is functioning as designed.
On repair visits, engineers establish the problem from the customer, check the faulty item to confirm the problem, diagnose the fault, adjust or repair or replace faulty components, and test the equipment after repair to ensure that it is working correctly.
Engineers are qualified and registered with F-gas for the types of appliances they are working on and retain their competency.
Once qualified you will be responsible for planning your schedule and logistics to meet customers’ requirements and location. Reporting to the correct person in the customer’s premises and agreeing the purpose of their visit and managing customer expectations. At all times, presenting a professional image of the company. Engineers largely work on their own and unsupervised – self-managing, however occasionally on maintenance visits to larger kitchens, you may work alongside other Engineers or a Supervisor. You must ensure the quality and accuracy of work carried out, ensuring the health, safety and welfare of self and others - working in line with legislation. The initial training and development phase will provide broad-based exposure to various aspects of electrical engineering within food packaging systems and production lines.

AV Commissioning Engineer – This position will see you working with the Lead av engineer, PM & other junior AV engineers to get you what you need to be able to commission any systems in the timeframe laid out by the PM. You should be hands on but also able to delegate so you can concentrate on commissioning whenever needed. The role will be split between site work and the office base in Clapham.
Your principal involvement will be with theMetallurgy and Steelwork Inspection departments, but it is planned for you to spend time in other departments including the Construction Materials, and Building Inspection and Investigation departments. In all cases full training will be given and the level of involvement in the different areas will grow as training and competence develops.
In addition to building on general laboratory techniques, you will learn to perform specific tests along with metallurgical techniques, mechanical testing and measurement of properties.
