The role of a Level 4 Sports Coach Apprentice is a very important one in the life of the school. The Community Activator Apprentice with Swimming specialism has an important role to play in improving the health and wellbeing of children, families and communities by supporting the delivery of fun, inclusive and engaging sessions using our swimming pools. Working alongside our SwimED swim teachers, this apprenticeship will give you an introduction into the world of swim teaching and also wider sports coaching delivery.
Along the apprenticeship journey, you will learn how to plan, deliver and review sessions. We will fund your swim teacher qualification. The Sports Coach apprentice has an important role to play in improving the health and wellbeing of children, families and communities by delivering fun, inclusive and engaging activities that help to bring about a change in physical activity habits. They will use extensive technical and tactical sports knowledge and skills to design and deliver coaching programmes that engage, motivate and evolve participants’ skills and performance
During this programme, Apprentices will engage with training that will develop and enhance their coaching skills and equip them to work in a variety of environments, with a range of stakeholders and work effectively in partnership with other organisations. In addition to this, there will also be a unique opportunity for candidates to engage with training that will develop and enhance their classroom practice/teaching skills so they can deliver whole class teaching for PE.
School Sport Coaches design and deliver coaching programmes that focus on the acceleration of sustainable mastery of children’s psychomotor skills and wider physical education standards. They profile children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development needs. They measure psychomotor, technical and tactical skills in a range of physical activity contexts drawn from the Department for Education’s National Curriculum to enable physical education targets to be agreed. These results are used to create a high-level curriculum plan that considers school term schedules and a ‘whole child’ development approach
The nature of roles and responsibilities for this role may include:
Working directly with pupils of all ages
Support/lead extra-curricular activities
Assist with school games competitions & events
Run/organise and support physical activity and engagement at break and lunch times
Support the delivery of our holiday camp provision
Supporting the delivery of high quality and inclusive PE lessons to pupils in schools in line with the requirements of national curriculum for PE and the profile of needs across the pupil population
Administration tasks related to planning and evaluating coaching activities/projects
Safeguard children at all times
Contribute to raising standards by ensuring high expectations are shared with children
Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety, by complying with good H&S practice
Support the teachers and coaches in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate

To provide instruction to Centre clients taking part in activities, including monitoring and reporting on such matters as are required to achieve the aims of the course and good safe practice.
To work for the centre’s needs in accordance with annualised hours.
To be fully aware of the differing needs of Centre users and to adopt appropriate teaching/ supervisory methods. Where appropriate to assist senior staff with the development of suitable initiatives and programmes to enhance the quality of course.
To undertake appropriate training, negotiated with the Head of Centre, to gain National Governing Body qualifications.
To assist with maintenance of outdoor activity equipment and all aspects of site maintenance. Each instructor may be given a number of responsibility areas/teaching resources to maintain.
To assist with the preparation of general teaching resources, worksheets and review material and to ensure the operational availability of a number of specific responsibility areas/teaching resources as allocated to individual staff.
Training:Boundless Outdoors is seeking to employ a team of Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprentices!
Boundless Outdoors works with a wide range of groups from different backgrounds. From children with additional needs to corporate groups, no two days are ever the same.
We take your training seriously and want you to be successful in your role. Therefore, you will be trained to deliver as many activities as possible. This training will not only focus on your own personal skill development, but also in house sign off and national governing body qualifications. The level of skill you leave us with will very much be personal to you and how much effort you put in and the progress you make.

Skills and qualifications:
Experience of working with young people. (Essential)
Experience of a range of different outdoor activities, including: Kayaking, Canoeing, Climbing or Hill Walking.
A willingness to undertake a very wide range of duties apart from instructing groups, including for example: overnight duties, estate management and maintaining equipment.
Ability to work flexibly including on occasion unsocial hours.
Desirable: 19 years and over Functional skills 2 Maths and English
Essential: 18 years and under require Functional skills 2 Maths and English
