Working within the Property Assets team and reporting to the Quantity Surveyor, the Quantity Surveyor Apprentice will assist the team in delivering the planned works programme, responsive repairs and projects to both housing and corporate building stock.
This will include but will not be limited to:

Main responsibilities will include:
Assist in planning and preparing a geospatial land survey project starting with the client’s specification
Complete all site risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for the site
Set up and operate the latest survey technology under the guidance of a surveyor

Load information onto Powers’ project management system

Working within the Property Assets team and reporting to the Quantity Surveyor, the Building Surveyor Apprentice will assist the team in delivering planned works and responsive repairs to both housing and corporate stock. This will include but not limited to:
Undertake the Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship BSc (Hons) Building Surveying, on a day release basis.
Assist the team in preparing and managing formal contract work.
With supervision, carry out property surveys, attend meetings and prepare drawings, surveys and contract details under supervision. All of this work will be carried out in connection with the Council’s diverse property portfolio. The role will work on both pre and post-contract duties.

THE ROLE
My client is a charity with multiple properties.
They are seeking an ASSET SURVEYOR who may be a Building Surveyor or similar to join them in London.
You will be responsible for the development and delivery of the cyclical school estate surveying programme including doing condition surveys and reports, ensuring compliance with H&S, capture of accurate and comprehensive asset and compliance data, assess of estate condition and cost forecasts and long term estate management decisions.
You will prepare Annual Condition Reports, make recommendations for grant funding, do some project management and contract administration for repair and improvement works to schools.
You will do investigative building surveys and determine works for damp, disrepair claims, stock acquisitions, mergers and disposals, option appraisals and stock reationalisation, tenant alterations, party walls, customer complaints etc.
You will quality assure surveys carried out by contractors and consultants.
You will provide technical advice on building defects.
You will support the Operations Director to develop and deliver the Estate Management strategy for the school estate including decisions on transition to Net Zero Carbon.
You will help with decisions to prioritise schools for rebuilding programmes.
THE COMPANY
My client is a charity with multiple buildings which includes schools and other types of properties.
They own an estate of 180 schools and investment properties.
THE CANDIDATE
You will have an HNC, BSc or MSc qualified or similar qualification in Building Surveying or similar.
You need to have experience of the following:-
Property surveys for property disrepair
You will need experience to design and deliver planned, cyclical and responsive surveying and maintenance programmes
Experience of stock surveying including developing templates and delivering volume stock condition surveys
Be able to critically analyse asset data and use it to provide detailed specifications including cost forecasts and to inform long-term investment planning
Be able to carry out defective property investigations to diagnose defects and do reports
You should have knowledge of health and safety statutory obligations
Previous experience of working on schools or colleges would be useful although not essential
You must have excellent client facing skills and be able to deal with people at all levels.
You should have a stable work record.
You must have excellent English both written and spoken.
Salary is in range of £55158 to £59220 per annum plus generous pension and 33 days holiday plus bank holidays.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Ensuring the integrity of the supplied submarine fibre-optic cable products is maintained throughout the installation operation
Review previous operational meeting minutes to assess the vessel for project readiness, reporting on the technical status of the lay spread equipment
Ensuring the Health & Safety of the team, and ensuring the sub-contractor complies with the contractual HSE requirements, through toolbox meetings and risk assessments

As a Quantity Surveying apprentice, you’ll support the commercial delivery of infrastructure projects while developing key technical and professional skills. Working closely with experienced team members, you’ll gain hands-on experience, contribute to meaningful work, and learn how the business operates from the inside out. As your confidence and knowledge grow, you’ll gradually take on more responsibility and ownership of tasks.
Supporting budget reporting, cost monitoring, and responding to client queries with guidance from senior team members.
Learning the fundamentals of infrastructure contracts through hands-on experience in contract administration and management across the full project lifecycle.
Participating in site visits, team meetings, and knowledge-sharing sessions to build practical understanding.
Learning to use industry-standard tools and technology to produce accurate commercial outputs.
Gaining exposure to business development, service improvement, and innovation, with regular access to senior management for mentorship and insight.
Attending a RICS-accredited degree course one day a week, with full support toward achieving professional accreditation upon completion.
Training:As part of this apprenticeship, you will study towards a Level 6 Chartered Surveyor (Quantity Surveying) Degree Apprenticeship, delivered by London South Bank University (LSBU). Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying and become eligible to progress toward Chartered Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
Training is delivered on a day-release basis, with one day per week spent attending lectures and workshops at LSBU’s Southwark campus in London. The remaining four days will be dedicated to gaining practical, on-the-job experience with your BTTC team on live infrastructure projects.
Throughout the programme, you’ll receive structured academic support from LSBU and professional mentoring from your employer to help you build the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for chartered status. In addition to the academic qualification, you’ll also take part in a range of internal and external training courses, including e-learning, classroom-based, and practical sessions, designed to support your broader professional development.Training Outcome:Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be promoted to a Consultant role.
