Undertake training to complete a full range of Plumbing Heating repairs, maintenance and installation works
Carry out routine and/or planned maintenance in relation Plumbing & Heating
Carry out responsive repairs i.e. fixing leaking fixtures and fittings i,e taps, sinks, showers, basins, baths, radiators, outside taps, as well as fixing heating systems
Installation of Plumbing & Heating systems i.e. replacing complete heating systems boilers, radiators; or installing the plumbing parts of new kitchens and bathrooms
Undertake the use, maintenance, cleaning and storage of hand and small powered tools
Assist in the loading and unloading of vehicles
Confident to interact with people of all ages and abilities Communicating openly, engaging with customers/residents of Sandwell Council, to ensure the best service is being offered
Working within all aspects of Health and Safety Regulations
To carry out all instructions issued to you by your Manager or Supervisor, or any person responsible with your training
Attend and complete all training and development courses as required
Attend a suitable college or training provider selected by the authority to carry out the training related to the qualification
To carry out on site and college based learning in compliance with Sandwell MBC employee Code of Conduct and work safe ethics

Training:Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:
The apprenticeship training will be delivered from a college location; however, you will receive visits from a college assessor to your place of work
The apprenticeship will also include a proportion of 20% off-the-job training and a robust programme of Mandatory Apprentice Training provided by Sandwell Council to include Fire Awareness, Prevent, Safeguarding, Data Protection & Cyber Security and Equality & Diversity
Training Outcome:
This apprenticeship is a fixed-term contract and at the end, you will gain a Level 3 Plumbing & Heating Qualification

Key Responsibilities Workshop Based Engineers:
Review and fault find each machine at set times, to avoid major problems in the future
Be well versed with the User Manual
Have all latest equipment to be used to repair the machine
Make a detailed report on what changes have been made and when the next service is to be scheduled
Order parts that need replacement in advance, so the work does not prevent machines going back out on hire
Machines have to be serviced and repaired where necessary and quickly
Work in a team so that servicing and repairs can be achieved within tight deadlines
Plan the servicing work in advance so the output of the factory is not affected
Delegate work amongst each other so that the work can be conducted at a fast pace
Produce reports on the work that is done on each machine
Ensure that any parts that need replacing are available in stock
Where possible improve the performance of the machine
Conduct safety checks on all the machines or it could prove to be dangerous for the workers working on them
Maintain an inventory of equipment required for the repair work
Have a good working knowledge of all the latest machinery that is available in the market
Have a hands-on approach in effecting repairs to machinery, sourcing cost effective parts and supplies as necessary
Inspect all the machines and make reports for the management on new machine requirements
Effect repairs to mailing machines and associated equipment where necessary
Maintain, support and service any piece of production associated equipment
Continual improvement of own skills through training and knowledge sharing
Maintenance & Repairs: Learn to inspect, service, and repair plant machinery such as excavators, dumpers, cranes, and generators.
Diagnostics: Assist in identifying mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
Workshop Duties: Support the team in assembling, dismantling, and modifying mechanical systems.
Record Keeping: Help document service and repair work using digital or paper-based systems.
Health & Safety: Follow safety protocols, wear PPE, and report hazards or incidents.

As an Apprentice Drainage & Plumbing Engineer working with Smithys, you will benefit from exceptional training and support both in the field as well as in the office. Our friendly and experienced team of plumbers and engineers will guide and support you through your training, ensuring you are always receiving the correct exposure and experience to be able to become a well rounded engineer/plumber by the end of your apprenticeship.
No day is the same, however below are some of the roles and responsibilities that will be a part of your role:
Attending emergency call outs for both drainage and plumbing, whether it be a toilet or urinal blockage, or issues with leaks and damaged pipework, you will be involved in all elements of the emergency procedure
PPM Works – Descales of Pipe, Unvented Cylinder Checks, Tap Changes, Hot Water Tank Checks etc.
Repairs & Maintenance – working across our network of commercial clients, you will assist our engineers with repairs and maintenance tasks, such as pipe work alterations, changing and repairing hot water systems, external drainage repairs and investigation works where required
Project Work – as a part of the role, you will also get involved in larger scale projects working alongside our more experienced plumbers and engineers, such as suspended pipework alterations, install of multiple appliances, such as, sinks and dishwashers, and any other project work that takes place.
Administration – Using the companies in house reporting software, you will log reports on jobs confirming what works have been completed and any recommendations for further work
We work with a network of clients, from national retailers to large scale construction firms, so there will be a requirement to work out of hours from time to time which will be reimbursed at the companies agreed overtime rates.Training:

Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements
Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage
Ensuring that drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions
Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record/logbook
Ensuring that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order
Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions
Ordering and unpacking drugs and dressings
Dispensing and checking repeat prescriptions and prescriptions from surgeries under the supervision of a dispenser
