Main roles and responsibilities:
To undertake an apprenticeship leading to a nationally recognised qualification whilst working as part of a team.
Able to work to a high quality with relevant instructions and supervision.
To build pumpsets powered by either diesel or electric motors, testing, preparing for final despatch.
To communicate accurately with your Production Supervisor and work colleagues.
To be focused on quality, timescales and working as part of a team.
All small tools or equipment used to be kept in good condition. Any defects found must be reported to your Production Supervisor.
To use cranes or other lifting equipment safely to lift, move, load or unload components or assemblies as necessary to carry out scheduled tasks.
To be able to identify faulty parts and report your findings to the Production Supervisor.
To promote a continuous improvement culture by making suggestions to the Production Supervisor/Operations Manager.
To take pride in your area of work and maintain a clean working environment.
To be responsible for your workstations tools and to perform daily checks to ensure that they are in safe working order and ready for the next day.
Any other duties that may from time to time be required to maintain the smooth running of the factory.
Training:
The learner will be studying the Engineering Fitter Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard qualification.
Day release to West Suffolk College.
Training Outcome:The team is small but diverse. There are many skills to learn in the team. Your role and responsibilities:
Lead/co-ordinate in structured root cause analyses to investigate technical failures, identify systemic issues and develop corrective actions that enhance the useability, safety and long-term reliability of the USVs.
Investigate procedural and documentation-related contributors to failures, identifying gaps in technical instructions, maintenance procedures, or system documentation, and provide clearrecommendations that support updates to controlled documents and continuous improvement efforts
Identify and communicate opportunities for USV design improvements to the product management teams with a view to advise and assist in the implementation of these via feedback loop with design teams for both existing assets and new-build vessels
Develop and distribute reports and technical memos to stakeholders outlining findings from technical investigations.
What you’ll need to thrive in this role:
Hold Bachelor or equivalent in electro-mechanical, electrical, mechanical or similar
Strong understanding of electrical/mechanical subsystems such as propulsion, steering, hull structures, and mechanical linkages.
Experience diagnosing failures related to wear, fatigue, corrosion, and mechanical misalignment in marine environments
Skilled in interpreting and analysing electrical/mechanical drawings, assembly schematics,and component specifications
Familiarity with marine classification standards and reliability practices formechanical and electrical systems (e.g., ISO 16315, DNV GL rules).
Able to assess the impact of electrical/mechanical design decisions on system reliability and maintainability. Comfortable working with field data, maintenance logs, and inspectionreports to identify recurring mechanical issues and degradation patterns.

As a USV Commissioning Surveyor/ Engineer within Sea-Kit’s Operations division, you will play a vital role in commissioning and supporting our cutting-edge Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) technologies. Based in our Plymouth office, you will lead the mobilisation and operation of advanced positioning and hydrographic survey systems, ensuring seamless data acquisition and quality control during vessel commissioning. From configuring and calibrating survey equipment to diagnosing complex network and system faults, you will be instrumental in delivering precision and reliability across every build.
Please note that this 37.5 hours a week and a Monday to Friday role
Your role and responsibilities:
Safety
Carry out all activities with a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental protection.
Help assess and reduce risks during survey operations by preparing risk assessments, toolbox talks, and permits to work.
Quality
Deliver work to high standards, following the company’s quality procedures and project requirements.
Set up, test, and operate survey sensors; write related procedures and reports.

Troubleshoot survey and network faults, take corrective action, and document findings.

What you’ll need to thrive in this role:
Technical / Functional Competencies
Understand key functional competencies aligned with industry standards.
Familiar with survey equipment including Starpacks, Hydrins, Rovins, MBES, SBES, R2Sonic, Seapath, and Sonardyne USBL (Intermediate level).
Familiar with communication systems such as VSAT and Starlink (Intermediate level).
Able to perform calibrations of survey and positioning sensors to deliverable quality (Intermediate level).
Familiar with network architectures and able to fault find and resolve interfacing issues (Intermediate level).
Knowledge of data transfer protocols and wiring including RS232, RS485, TCP, and UDP (Intermediate level).
Familiarity with Starfix software package would be advantageous.
Education
