Key Responsibilities:
Assist senior press operators with the setup and operation of lithographic printing presses
Learn how to prepare printing plates, adjust ink levels, and align paper for print runs
Monitor print quality under supervision and make basic adjustments as instructed
Help with loading and unloading materials such as paper, ink, and plates
Support general press maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure smooth operation
Follow all safety procedures and keep work areas clean and organised
Develop an understanding of colour control, registration, and print specifications
Participate in training sessions and gradually take on more responsibility as skills develop
Training:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will achieve a Level 2 Print Operative Apprenticeship Standard
You will be supported by both your employer and training provider, BPIF Training, during your time as an apprentice
You will follow a structured training plan and will be provided one day a week dedicated to working towards your qualification
Training will take place at the workplace, with regular visits from your BPIF Training Coordinator along with occasional online sessions
You will work one-to-one with your Training Coordinator throughout your learning journey to ensure you receive tailored support and guidance
You will have access to the company meeting room throughout your apprenticeship where you will have dedicated space to study
Training Outcome:
The plan is for a permanent full time job as a Print Technician after the apprenticeship is completed

As an Apprentices Chemist to work toward:
Provide analytical data for process and product control to meet legal and quality assurance requirements; analysis of plant process samples, sample collection on plant, communication of sample results to plant/customers, basic equipment maintenance and performance checks to ensure accuracy of measurement.

Review and fault find each machine at set times, to avoid major problems in the future
Be well versed with the User Manual
Have all latest equipment to be used to repair the machine
Make a detailed report on what changes have been made and when the next service is to be scheduled
Order parts that need replacement in advance, so the work does not prevent machines going back out on hire
Machines have to be serviced and repaired where necessary and quickly
Work in a team so that servicing and repairs can be achieved within tight deadlines
Plan the servicing work in advance so the output of the factory is not affected
Delegate work amongst each other so that the work can be conducted at a fast pace
Produce reports on the work that is done on each machine
Ensure that any parts that need replacing are available in stock
Where possible improve the performance of the machine
Conduct safety checks on all the machines or it could prove to be dangerous for the workers working on them
Maintain an inventory of equipment required for the repair work
Have a good working knowledge of all the latest machinery that is available in the market
Have a hands-on approach in effecting repairs to machinery, sourcing cost effective parts and supplies as necessary
Inspect all the machines and make reports for the management on new machine requirements
Effect repairs to mailing machines and associated equipment where necessary
Maintain, support and service any piece of production associated equipment
Continual improvement of own skills through training and knowledge sharing
