Manual Turner Role & Responsibilities
We are looking for a skilled Manual Turner to join a busy and well-equipped machine shop. You will be responsible for producing high-spec components to tight tolerances using manual lathes and occasionally deep hole boring equipment.
As a Manual Turner, your duties will include:
- Reading and interpreting detailed 2D engineering drawings and route cards
- Planning and setting up complex machining operations on manual lathes
- Any large Boring experience is a bonus
- Using overhead cranes to load and position heavy components (training provided)
- Operating lathes to machine large components to tight tolerances
- Performing layout inspections and marking out prior to machining
- Carrying out in-process and final inspections to ensure quality standards are met
- Deburring and ensuring safe handling of components
- Basic programming using Siemens controls (training available)
- Daily housekeeping and TPM tasks to maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Recording time and job data accurately in the system
Manual Turner Requirements
To be successful as a Manual Turner, youll need:
- A relevant engineering apprenticeship or equivalent experience
- At least 2 years' experience on manual lathes and/or deep hole boring machines
- Confidence reading and understanding complex technical drawings
- Knowledge of machining large components to fine tolerances
- Ability to lift and sling heavy items safely (training provided)
- Basic understanding of CNC programming (Siemens control experience is a bonus)
- A logical, methodical work approach with good attention to detail
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently

Bore Mill Machinist Role & Responsibilities
We are looking for a skilled Bore Mill Machinist to join a well-equipped and growing machine shop. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting, operating and machining large precision components using manual bore milling machines.
As a Bore Mill Machinist, your duties will include:
- Reading and interpreting detailed 2D engineering drawings and route cards
- Planning and setting up machining operations on manual bore mills
- Selecting correct tooling, feeds, and speeds based on material and geometry
- Using overhead cranes to load and position large or heavy workpieces (training provided)
- Operating horizontal bore milling machines
- Machining to tight tolerances on large and complex components
- Performing layout inspections and marking out before machining
- Carrying out in-process and final checks to ensure quality compliance
- Deburring and preparing components for safe handling
- Maintaining a clean and organised workstation through TPM and daily housekeeping tasks
