In your first year, you’ll be based (live in) in Coventry full-time, attending training Monday - Friday onsite at our partner MGTS, where you’ll develop core technical skills in a hands-on, workshop-based environment.
From year two through to the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll spend the majority of your time back at your assigned site, applying what you've learned in real-world settings alongside experienced engineers. You’ll also return to MGTS periodically for further training and assessments as part of your qualification. Responsibilities:
Take a customer’s drawing and create a forging profile capable of being machined to the finished dimensions
Be able to understand manufacturing procedures and apply them to methods of production while adhering to the customer’s specifications
Select the appropriate ingot required to make the forging, and any required heat treatments that the forging is required to be subjected to
Liaise with the machine shop estimator to ensure that the method chosen is the most cost effective from an overall business perspective
Raise steel orders for the melt shop once an order has been placed
Generate forging procedures to give instruction to the foremen how to forge to estimated product
Designing forging profiles and routes based around the company’s capabilities i.e. crane SWL and sizes of treatment fires
Seek out sub-con assistance when required i.e. certain steel coatings or sub-con forging
Must be able to work closely with technical and production departments, thus optimising the most economical production route
Assist with the preparation of documents to meet customers’ requirements
Adhere to all company H&S systems of work and procedures
Work to Standard Process Instructions, Works Operating Instructions and the Works Quality Documents

Conduct and foster professional and timely communication (via email, voicemail, in person) with the customers, sales reps, field staff, and internal company personnel on all diagnostic related matters. Serve as a contact for the office personnel if there are any problems concerning a diagnostic issue. Project a professional appearance and demeanor at all times while completing services for a customer. In conjunction with the Manager of Diagnostic Services, assist in the training of other field personnel on diagnostic tools, techniques, processes, etc. Proper completion of all services and related paperwork. Participate in all safety trainings and complete any required documentation. A Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship at Liberty Pipes Hartlepool involves multi mechanical disciplines which range from mechanical fitting to mechanical maintenance, preventative maintenance to rapid response for breakdowns and site service support to being part of a specialised engineering team. The engineering function is very diverse, and apprentices will gain opportunities to visit the different areas and experience the function of the team in each particular area.
Tasks cover a wide range of disciplines and equipment including:Pneumatic and Hydraulic SystemsConveyance & pipe handling equipmentPumping and wash systemsAutomated cutting & milling equipmentOverhead Cranes & mobile plantUltrasonic and x-ray systemsGas fired furnaces

You will be responsible for maintaining the safety, reliability, quality & performance of the relevant equipment and using continuous improvement techniques in an effort to reduce costs and improve efficiency. You will work within the Liberty Pipes Hartlepool business, which produces large diameter pipes designed to meet the detailed and demanding requirements of some of the worlds most challenging markets and industries. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to study mechanical engineering in a practical and hands on environment.
Training:
The first year of training will be based at Hartlepool College of Further Education with placements during college vacations on employer's premises.
Following successful completion of the first year, apprentices will work on site with day release to HCFE as appropriate.
Training Outcome:
Apprentices who demonstrate consistent commitment, thoroughness and ability may have the opportunity for further training & qualifications (HNC & B.Eng). Possibility of future permanent employment, roles can progress through to technician, team leader, shift engineer, department manager, and a wide range of operational roles.

Key Responsibilities:
Respond to both client queries and requests, and other internal departments within agreed timescales and in line with our Company procedures.
The deployment of our Client solutions, racks and related equipment to agreed plans, provided by our project teams.
Provide expert cabling support including crimping, patching, labelling, running and terminating.
Manage a queue of internal and external requests via ServiceNow ticket system and/or via emails, which may include some direct client interaction.
Follow escalation processes; tickets to support management and other teams as required.
Liaise with both Clients and Third party suppliers when onsite, and report / escalate any client problems.
Monitoring and escalation of critical infrastructure
Site Access Management, if there is no onsite security.
Assist with troubleshooting faults
Install and decommission redundant equipment and cabling.
Work closely with all members of the DC and wider operational teams to ensure efficient, productive and high quality service to our clients within Pulsant live Data Centre.
Stock control of Pulsant assets and store management.
Manage, categorise and prioritise all relevant tickets; these include problems, queries and requests regarding Pulsant services.

Flexibility is required of all job holders to adjust responsibilities as required by their People Leaders.
