The Ranger team at the South Downs West look after close to 3,000ha of countryside, with a network Footpaths and Bridleways over a variety of habitats including Lowland Heath, Chalk Grassland, Ancient woodland, productive Coppice (Hazel and Sweet chestnut), Orchards and extensive natural regeneration of ex arable to predominantly wood pasture. Here at Woolbeding the team have recently taken on the management of over 200ha of ex arable farmland. You will be based on the Golden Cap Estate, near Bridport, West Dorset; part of a portfolio of 33 places that we care for across North & West Dorset, including some of National Trust’s most important sites for nature and archaeology.

Supporting our Account Officers (AO) and Account Managers (AM) on global programmes and to deliver a high quality service

You will be based on the Slindon Estate in West Sussex, a traditional Sussex estate comprised of mix broadleaved woodland and downland with four tenant farms across the estate. Slindon is home to the Northwood project, which for several years was the National Trusts largest woodland restoration project. Work varies throughout the year; wintertime is predominantly chainsaw work in the woodlands managing coppice and timber. Summer involves more survey work, maintaining furniture and rights of way and public engagement. You will also occasionally work on other sites across our portfolio including Drovers Estate, East Head, Warren Hill and Sullington Warren. The High Peak Estate is the largest landholding within the Peak District portfolio. With over 12,000 ha of land, this is a huge and remote area comprising largely moorland and woodland habitats. We have a leading 50-year Vision for upland management in the High Peak. You'll learn about and help to deliver large scale moorland conservation work and create wooded habitat whilst also working as part of a team of rangers responsible for day to day estate management and maintenance.
