We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Machine Shop Manager to lead day-to-day operations within our busy and fast-paced workshop. This role is ideal for someone with a hands-on background in machining who now thrives in a leadership and planning capacity. Youll be responsible for workflow management, team performance, customer liaison, and the overall efficiency and output of the machine shop. While the position is predominantly desk-based, deep technical knowledge and practical experience in machining processes are essential.

Key Responsibilities: Machine Shop Manager
- Lead and supervise the machine shop team, ensuring work is delivered on time, to spec, and to a high standard.
- Plan and schedule workload in line with customer requirements and operational resources.
- Monitor workshop performance and compliance with quality, safety, and operational procedures.
- Provide day-to-day technical support and training to machinists and engineering staff.
- Liaise with customers to understand technical requirements, provide updates, and ensure satisfaction.
- Review and sign off job estimates and quotations, working closely with admin and sales teams.
- Conduct regular staff reviews, manage attendance, and maintain team discipline and morale.
- Oversee job records, inspection documentation, and production data to ensure full traceability.
- Manage stock levels in coordination with stores to ensure timely availability of materials and parts.
- Champion a clean, safe, and compliant workshop environment, enforcing PPE and safety policies.
- Maintain and manage all machinery, tools, and workshop equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Monitor workshop budgets, controlling spend on labour, spares, and materials.
- Generate accurate and timely operational reports for senior management.
- Be available for occasional overtime or out-of-hours support as required.
Skills & Experience Required: Machine Shop Manager
- Proven background in machining or mechanical engineeringideally within aerospace, automotive, or industrial sectors.
- Significant experience in a workshop supervisory or management role.
- Deep knowledge of machining techniques, materials, and tools.
- Exposure to welding and balancing processes would be an advantage.
- Strong mechanical and electrical understanding preferred.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong leadership and team development skills, with the ability to motivate and support others.
- Confident communicator, capable of liaising with internal departments and external customers.
- High level of computer literacy, especially in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Ensure Job Cards are opened for Scheduled work and open job cards for non-scheduled work
Advise Workshop of vehicle arrival and record date/time as well as recording date and time of vehicle departure
Ensure that all job cards are submitted back with all relevant data recorded, a foreman signature recorded for validation and then process them for payment to the customer via the RAMS I.T system
Ensure all inspection records & legal certification is sent to the appropriate customer within 24 hours of being received / completed
Ensure the accurate input of vehicle fleet defects and that they are appropriately signed off by the repairing agent/technician as well as communicated to the customer
Ensure the customer is kept fully informed of work in progress (WIP) and any potential delays or unexpected work / increase in costs
Work collaboratively with workshop departments to ensure timeliness of inspection & defect records and keep accurate vehicle history records in accordance with legislation
Provide support to the workshop service controller by producing estimates, obtaining work authorisations which will improve efficiency
Process and build all information on completed job card
Obtain order numbers from customers
Collate meaningful reports from all department activity to reduce WIP numbers
Ensure purchase orders are raised for relevant & associated fleet work
Ensure parts requisitions are analysed and audited for accuracy
Take workshop calls and field as required
Record vehicle breakdowns and pass to appropriate staff member for action
Load parts on to jobs using supplier delivery notes
Any other duties as required
Stock checks on a regular basis
Working closely with the Service Controller to ensure all jobs are closed in a timely manner

Key Responsibilities
1. First Point of Contact & General Enquiries
Handle incoming communications (email/phone), responding to or redirecting queries as appropriate.
Act as the first point of contact for internal and external queries, ensuring enquiries are dealt with efficiently.
Support the Retrofit Coordinator (RC) and Retrofit Assessor (RA) by flagging important tasks or deadlines.
2. Workflow & Job Administration
Ensure jobs progress efficiently through the workflow using our internal IT platforms (e.g. CoreLogic, ECOSurv).
Diary management for the RC and associated partners (e.g. Anglian Contracts), including scheduling assessments and meetings.
Perform an initial check on submitted documentation to ensure completeness.
Request missing documentation or information from installers and assessors as needed.
Upload, manage, and organise project files and documents on shared platforms like Dropbox.
Create and manage manual document templates (e.g. CoreLogic Ventilation Strategy).
Complete manual job lodgements on TrustMark where necessary.Maintain accurate records and logs of job progression and communication.
3. Installer & Platform Support
Support new installers with onboarding and platform access/setup (e.g. CoreLogic / ECOSurv), with guidance from the RC.
Help troubleshoot basic issues and escalate queries when appropriate.
Maintain up-to-date installer records and contact lists.
4. General Office Administration
Support the Office Manager with ad-hoc administrative duties.Assist in compiling and distributing internal reports, including the weekly Friday Report.
Contribute to internal process improvement by identifying areas for streamlining admin tasks.
Always maintain confidentiality and data protection standards.
Training:You will be supported you over an 18 month period (plus a 3 month added for the EPA), to achieve a Business Administration Level 3 (Advanced).

This is a role for someone wishing to start out on a career giving secretarial and administrative support to fee earners in the Probate Department and on reception. You will be expected to become proficient in the tasks listed below and will, over time, develop your skills to be able to do certain jobs with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities:
Probate:
Taking departmental telephone calls and taking a clear message, particularly as first port of call for head of department and as a back-up for all other department members
Photocopying and scanning
Making appointments for fee earners, including using electronic diary
Preparing and sending out letters and supporting paperwork for appointments for Estates, Wills and Powers of Attorney; opening files
Filing
