THE ROLE
My client, an established firm of PQS with a thriving London office now seeks an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their City of London office.
You will have the opportunity of working on high value projects across a wide range of sectors including residential, mixed use, commercial offices, data centres, retail, leisure, heritage, education etc.
You will have the opportunity of working on new build, refurbishment and fit-out projects.
They are keen to find an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor who will have around 2 years QS experience, ideally gained with another PQS.
You may either be working towards taking the APC or be keen to work towards becoming chartered.
My client offers good CPD and support to take the APC to become RICS qualified.
THE COMPANY
My client is a firm of PQS with a good range of clients mainly in the private sector.
They are a good sized firm of construction consultants offering clients both cost management and project management services.
THE CANDIDATE
You will ideally be a Graduate Quantity Surveyor who is currently working for a firm of PQS.
You will need to have at least 2 years or more PQS experience doing both pre and post contract duties and this may be post graduation or you may have worked for a PQS firm during your Degree.
You will have a BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying which should be RICS accredited.
You will either be working towards taking the APC or you will be keen to start working towards becoming chartered.
You should be able to work as part of a friendly team.
You should have a stable work record.
You must have excellent English both written and spoken along with good IT skills.
Salary is in the region of £35000 to £45000 plus RICS fees, pension contribution, discretionary bonus etc.

The role will comprise traditional Quantity Surveying duties, including Feasibility Studies, Cost Plans, Bills of Quantities, Employer’s Requirements, Valuations and Cost Reports, Final Accounts, and cashflows.
Additional interest in and awareness of the following areas would be of particular benefit:
Contract Administration
Project Management
Delivering projects in the cultural, heritage and museums sector and in the public sector for Local Authorities
Life Cycle Costing, Renewable Technologies and / or Mechanical and Electrical Services Surveying
This role offers the opportunity to assist with the development of projects and to work closely with a range of clients, acquiring professional skills and knowledge across the Focus service portfolio. It offers an exceptional opportunity for the right person to advance within the field and development opportunities exist both within the team and across the wider multi-disciplinary business, with exposure to varied project types that prioritize sustainability and innovation.
Assisting with the procurement and tendering process
Assisting the Department Leads in providing estimates for clients ensuring that any deadline is met
Taking off drawings accurately to ensure correct quantities and details are established
Carrying out valuations on site of works done in the monthly period
Providing cost reports to the client
Attending briefing, pre-start and monthly progress meetings
Assist the Project Management team with the management of live projects
Aid with the preparation and submission of final accounts, variations and interim payment requests
Training:
Chartered Surveyor Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship (Quantity Surveyor Pathway) BSc (Hons) & RICS APC to gain chartered status
Day release one day per week on NTU campus during term time
